A roguelike is a style of role-playing game traditionally built around dungeon crawls through procedurally generated levels, with turn-based play, grid-based movement and permanent death. The name comes from Rogue (1980). The core loop is a run: enter the dungeon, fight, gather items, and get as far as you can before dying and starting over. NetHack is a classic example.
Roguelikes need procedural generation, code that builds a new, playable level each run, plus turn logic that waits for the player and then moves every monster. Games that keep some of these traits without turn-based play are often called roguelites.
In the browser, Math.random() can't be seeded, because the browser picks the seed. A game that wants shareable seeds or daily runs, where every player gets the same dungeon, needs its own seeded random generator.
