Editorial policy: how games get listed and ranked
Which games get listed, how a listing is made, and how player votes turn into rankings. A game has to meet every rule below to get in. After that, it's up to the players.
What gets listed
A game is listed only when all of these hold:
-
Playable
A browser build that loads, or a downloadable build with a public repository.
-
Substantially AI-made
The creator says so, or the rules of the jam it was made for require it.
-
A gameplay loop
A goal, feedback and a way to win or lose. A tech demo alone is not enough.
-
Safe to play
No malware or phishing, no crypto miners, no adult or hateful content, and no collecting personal data without a reason.
-
Fit for a general audience
No real-money betting or crypto payouts, no game built around a current war or party politics, and no premise that mocks a group of people.
-
Not a duplicate
A fork needs meaningful changes to be listed on its own.
How a game gets listed
Creators submit their games, and we also find games in game jams and on GitHub. Every game is reviewed before it's listed, and nothing is published automatically.
We don't score games ourselves: rankings come from player ratings.
Where games play
A game plays in our player, right on its page here, only when its maker allows it: they submitted it, their own page shows its badge, or they asked us. Every other game opens on the creator's site.
Games that show ads of their own always open on the creator's site.
How ratings and rankings work
Players rate games from 1 to 5 stars, one vote per device. Rankings use a Bayesian average: each game starts from a prior, a starting score worth 10 votes, and player ratings take over as votes come in.
- A game from a ranked jam
- The prior is its jam placement, from 5 for first place down to 2.5 for last place.
- Every other game
- The prior is the middle of the ranked jam games we list, now 4.27, so a new game counts as average until players say otherwise.
- Weekly and monthly lists
- Only games with at least three ratings in that period.
- Trending
- Plays and ratings over the last seven days.
That way a single 5-star vote moves a new game up without putting it on top: its ranking score becomes (4.27 × 10 + 5) ÷ 11, about 4.34. The stars on a game's page show the plain average of its votes.
Spotlight, the creator program and referral links
Spotlight slots are always labeled, and they never change a game's rating, rank or place in the top lists. Games whose own page links to their page here take turns in them, and get a Verified creator tick; the creator program explains how. Any link counts, followed or not.
Videos from other YouTube channels appear on a game's page when they link to it, and only after review. Their titles and channel names are the channels' own.
Some guides link to tools through referral links, which may earn us credits when someone signs up. We mark them where they appear. A referral never changes what a guide says, and tools don't pay to be covered.
How descriptions and screenshots are made
Descriptions are drafted with the help of AI from the creator's own materials, then reviewed with the rest of the entry before they're published. Claims about how a game was made always name their source.
Creators can send up to 3 screenshots with a submission. Those become the game's cover and screenshots, reviewed with the rest of the entry. For every other game, we take our own.
How guides and posts are made
Guides and posts are researched from primary sources: the makers' own documentation, release notes, pricing pages and jam rules. Every claim about what a tool, model or engine can do links the page it comes from, and the date on each guide is when we last checked it.
Numbers about games come from the catalog itself and update every time the site is built, so a guide never quotes a stale count. We don't accept payment to cover a tool, and referral links are marked where they appear.
When a tool changes or a reader spots a mistake, we update the page and its date. Corrections go to hello@gamesbyai.win.
Corrections and removals
If something on a page is wrong, or you want a game removed, see takedown and correction requests. We handle requests within 48 hours. You can also suggest a fix in the open catalog on GitHub.
