AI-made simulation games

A simulation game is a broad category of games designed to closely simulate real-world activities, for purposes such as training, analysis, prediction or entertainment. They cover vehicles, life and social systems, farming, construction and management, and jobs. There are usually no strictly defined goals, so the loop is to change something, watch the system respond, and adjust. The Sims and SimCity are well-known examples.

The code models a system: rules for physics, economies or ecosystems that respond to one another. Player choices have consequences that carry forward, so these games track state over time, and managing limited resources is a common thread.

In a browser, a common technique is to update the simulation at a constant rate and draw frames separately. When a hidden tab pauses the loop, the game can simulate the gap to catch up.
