Best AI game maker: 7 tools compared for 2026

Two kinds of tool make games here: coding agents that work on files in your project folder, and browser builders that run on their maker’s site. The table compares seven of them.

How do the seven tools compare?

Mostly on type, free option and price. Four are coding tools, three are browser builders, and only Rosebud is made for games. Plans and prices are as of September 2026, from each maker’s own pages, linked under each tool below and under Sources.

Data note: as of September 30, 2026 the catalog lists 404 games, and 367 of them are Vibe Jam 2026 entries (jam rules: at least 90% of the code written by AI). Creators name the tools themselves, mostly in the jam submission form. We don’t verify them.

Games can name more than one tool, so the counts overlap. Cursor and Bolt.new sponsored the jam (jam page), so the counts describe the games we list and say nothing about which tool makes better ones.

Which tool fits which builder?

Pick by how much setup you accept and whether you plan to sell.

• No setup, playable today. Rosebud is the one tool here made for games: it builds the code, art and sound from a description. Lovable and Bolt build general web apps from a chat.
• Your own files and engine. Use a coding agent. Claude Code, Cursor and Codex are the most-named tools among our 404 listed games.
• A free start. Codex, Antigravity, Cursor, Lovable, Bolt and Rosebud all have one. Claude Code needs a paid Claude plan, a Console account or a cloud provider.
• A game to sell. Commercial rights depend on the tool and plan, and as of September 2026 Rosebud lists them from its $30 plan. See selling AI-made games.

What the top-ranked games used

Claude Code made the first-place game and Codex the second and third, according to their creators. The jam organizer’s results post names the top three as A Game About Capybaras Delivering Food, Fanto’s Mega-Mart and WenWare (results post).

Further down, Necrotic Dungeon (Lovable) came 57th of 945 entries, Demolition Drive (Antigravity) 74th and Hormuzy (Bolt) 97th. The first two are among the games below.

The seven tools, one by one

Each entry says what the tool is and what it costs to start, as of September 2026, with the source.

Claude Code

Claude Code reads a codebase, edits files and runs commands. It runs in a terminal, in VS Code and JetBrains, as a desktop app and in the browser (docs).

Pro and Max plans include it, and the Free plan does not. Pro costs $20 a month, or $17 a month billed yearly, and Max starts at $100 (pricing, plan support page).

Cursor

Cursor is an AI code editor with agents (Cursor). Hobby is free with limited Agent requests, and Individual plans start at $20 a month (pricing).

Codex

OpenAI’s Codex comes as a command-line tool, an IDE extension, a desktop app and a cloud version. The command-line tool is open source under the Apache-2.0 license (GitHub).

Every ChatGPT plan includes Codex, with usage limits that vary by plan and model (Codex pricing).

Lovable

Lovable builds web apps from a chat (docs). Its free plan gives 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month, without code editing or custom domains. Pro starts at $25 a month (plans).

Google Antigravity

Antigravity is Google’s agentic development platform, and Google’s site says it is available at no charge (Antigravity). The free plan for individuals has weekly rate limits, and Google AI Pro and Ultra plans raise them (pricing).

Bolt

Bolt builds websites, apps and prototypes from a chat (Bolt). The free plan has a 300K-token daily limit and 1M tokens a month. Pro is $25 a month with no daily limit (pricing).

Rosebud

Rosebud builds the code, art and sound for a game from a description, on Three.js, and lets you open and edit the JavaScript it writes. Creating and playing games is free (Rosebud).

Paid plans run from $15 to $100 a month. Commercial rights are listed from the 10x Dev plan at $30 a month (pricing).

Can chat apps and AI Studio make a game?

Yes, for small ones, with three options that need no project folder. As of September 2026, Claude artifacts open in a side panel, can run interactively, and can be published and shared (Anthropic).

Gemini’s Canvas turns text prompts into apps, games, quizzes and web pages that you can preview and share (Google). Google AI Studio’s Build mode generates an app with a live preview, and it offers GitHub sync and a ZIP download (Google).

Method and date

Leaving out chat apps, we compared the six most-named tools among our 404 listed games, plus Rosebud, a browser builder made for games. Of the chat apps, the Claude app is named on 19 games and the Gemini app on 8. Type, free options and prices come from each maker’s own pricing, documentation or product pages, read in September 2026.

Creators name the tools themselves, mostly in the jam submission form. We did not test or rank output quality. Updated September 29, 2026.
