A racing game is a video game in which the player takes part in racing competitions, ranging from realistic simulations to fantastical arcade-style racers. The core loop is to drive a circuit or a point-to-point course, manage laps and position against opponents or the clock, and improve your time. Pole Position (1982), Gran Turismo (1997) and Mario Kart are examples.
Racers need a vehicle model. Simulation racers emphasize realistic handling and cornering, while arcade racers use looser physics that let players drift through turns. The code also needs track data, lap and position tracking, computer-controlled opponents and a camera view such as first-person, chase or overhead.
Browsers read steering and triggers from controllers through the Gamepad API, polled every frame. 3D tracks render with WebGL or its successor, WebGPU, which some major browsers don't support yet.
