About One Step Late

In One Step Late, a shadow copies your moves one step behind. It is a daily logic puzzle on a grid with holes in the floor: you move your character, and the shadow repeats the move you made just before.

The creator states that the whole game, design and code, came from an autonomous AI agent working in Claude Code. It is drawn on an HTML5 Canvas, and a new puzzle arrives each day.

The catch is that the shadow can walk straight into the holes you avoid, so every step has to be judged twice: once for where you land and once for where your shadow lands next. Solving a level means sequencing your moves so the lag works in your favor on the way to the goal.
