Crit The Beat

Crit The Beat is a browser rhythm game with an RPG twist, in the Guitar Hero mold. You follow the music and hit notes in time with it while the fight plays out as RPG-style combat, and the title's play on critical hits points at that side of it.

The creator, mxvdl, says they always loved Guitar Hero and wanted to add an RPG twist to it. It was made with Cursor for Vibe Jam 2026, which ranked it 284th of 945, with Three.js drawing the 3D scene.

The premise pairs two genres that rarely share a screen: the timing test of a rhythm track, and the sense of progression and combat from an RPG. It is single-player, so it comes down to you, the song and the fight.
