How many games are made with AI? We counted ours

Meet the average AI-made game: a Three.js action game you can play on your phone, made with one tool, and a coin flip away from online multiplayer. 404 games, counted.

Nobody knows how many games have been made with AI. Vibe Jam 2026 alone received 945 entries, according to its press page, and the 2025 edition more than 1,000. What we can count is our own catalog: 404 playable games as of September 30, 2026, each with the tools, engine and AI its creator names.

Every number below is live, counted from the catalog each time the site rebuilds.

Meet the average AI-made game

It runs on Three.js, like 66% of the games we list. It’s an action game (44%). It plays on your phone (63%), and it’s close to a coin flip whether you can play it with strangers online (43%). Its creator named one tool, most likely Claude Code, and didn’t say which model version wrote the code.

43 games match that whole description, including the game that won Vibe Jam 2026.

One caveat shapes everything below. Of our 404 games, 367 are Vibe Jam 2026 entries. That jam asked for free web games, preferred multiplayer and recommended Three.js (jam page), so the averages lean its way. Where games from outside the jam differ, we say so.

The web has a favorite engine

Engines named by the games we list
  1. Three.js26666%
  2. Phaser205%
  3. HTML5 Canvas184%
  4. PixiJS102%
  5. Godot61%
  6. Babylon.js51%

Out of 404 games; a game can count in several bars.

Three.js is on 66% of the games, a majority on its own. Second place goes to games that name no engine at all (74), from HALDANE-4’s ASCII horror to text RPGs like IdleWorlds. Godot and Unity together account for 8 games, which says more about the browser than about either engine.

The jam’s recommendation explains part of it. Outside the jam, 18 of the 37 games run on Three.js too. Browse them on the Three.js hub.

Everyone wants to fight something

Genres of the games we list (a game can have up to three)
  1. Action17644%
  2. Shooter9323%
  3. Simulation6717%
  4. Strategy6516%
  5. Arcade6115%
  6. Adventure5113%
  7. Puzzle4712%
  8. Racing318%

Out of 404 games; a game can count in several bars.

Action leads, shooters follow, and 63 games are both. The quiet end of the list is more interesting: 3 word games, 2 open-world games and 2 sandboxes. If you want to stand out, that’s where the room is.

Genre also decides whether you’ll have company. 54% of strategy games and 54% of shooters have online multiplayer, against 23% of puzzles.

Phones and friends

63% of the games list phones, and 100% run in a browser with no app store involved. 173 of them, 43%, have online multiplayer.

Both climb near the top of the jam. Of the entries we list from the top 50, 76% play on phones and 65% are online, against 69% and 46% of all jam entries. What the Vibe Jam 2026 top 50 did differently goes through it trait by trait.

The phone count is mostly the jam: 255 of the 256 phone-friendly games are jam entries. Building for phones yourself? How to make a mobile game with AI covers touch input and screen fit.

One tool, most often Claude Code

AI tools named by the games we list

  3. Codex7318%
  4. Claude app195%
  5. Google Antigravity164%
  6. Gemini app82%
  7. Lovable82%
  8. Bolt61%

Out of 404 games; a game can count in several bars.

Claude Code is on 169 games, 42%. Add Cursor and Codex, and the top three cover 79% of everything we list.

Most creators name one tool and stop there: 354 games list exactly one, 22 list two or more, and 28 list none.

The big three, side by side

Games made with the three leading tools look alike on paper, with one gap at the top of the jam.

Measure Claude Code Cursor Codex
Games 169 86 73
On Three.js 63% 74% 71%
List phones 66% 65% 59%
Online multiplayer 46% 51% 49%
Jam entries 158 80 68
Jam top 50 (34 listed) 13 8 11

The gap is in the last row. 11 of the 68 Codex jam entries finished in the top 50, against 13 of 158 for Claude Code. We list 34 of the top 50, and the missing ones could still move this, so treat it as a snapshot.

Creators name tools, not models

Only 19 of 404 games name an exact model version. Claude Opus 5.5 is on 9 of them and GPT-6 Astra on 5. Counted by AI family instead, the picture is simpler.

AI families named by the games we list

  2. GPT8220%
  3. Gemini246%
  4. Grok61%
  5. Kimi10%

Out of 404 games; a game can count in several bars.

Anthropic’s share is mostly Claude Code, named by 169 of its 191 games, and OpenAI’s is mostly Codex, with 73 of 82. Of the 117 games with no AI family named, 74 name only Cursor. Cursor’s site offers models from several companies (Cursor), so the tool alone doesn’t say whose model wrote the code.

The AI wrote most of it

Our entries record 382 of 404 games as mostly or entirely written by AI, and 22 don’t give a share. Vibe Jam 2026 required at least 90% of the code to be AI-written, and its 367 entries are recorded as most (360) or all (7).

Outside the jam, the creators of 13 games say AI wrote all of it. Games recorded as only partly made with AI: 0.

Inside the jam and out

The 37 games from outside the jam name different tools. Inside the jam, Claude Code leads with 158 of 367 entries. Outside it, Claude Code is on 11 of 37, and the Claude app, Anthropic’s chat assistant, on 14.

Three.js holds either way: 68% of jam entries and 49% of the rest.

Odds and ends

  • Vibe turns up in titles as a word of its own, from Vibe Farm to Vibe Voyage, and inside longer ones, like VibeInc.
  • Arena keeps showing up at the end of titles, from Color Arena to SplashPop Arena.
  • Few link a public code repository, so for most games the creator’s own words are the whole record of how they were made.
  • Most tools named on one game so far: four, on BoneCrawler. Its creator says Claude, ChatGPT and Codex wrote code, and Gemini did the planning.

Every game we add moves these numbers. Play a few from the top rated list, rate what you play, or submit your game for the next count.
